Recruitment Sector Resilient Under Pressure

A return to growth is expected in the recruitment sector next year, despite the potential blows dealt by public sector cuts.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation’s 2010 annual industry report showed a 12% fall in turnover in the industry, however sales in the industry was still pushing the £20 Billion mark.

The UK recruitment industry has weathered the storm well in comparison to US and other EU economies, which have averaged drops between 20-35 per cent. KPMG has reported that the second half of 2010 has shown a growth in the demand for staff.

It has not been easy in recruitment recently, as the industry stands at the front line of the war on job losses, but things are looking up for the new year. It appears that the biggest hits were suffered during the first half of the 09/10 period, and now the growth in jobs being advertised would indicate a shift in fortune within the industry. All in all 2011 could be a good year for careers in recruitment.
